MEREDITH NIEVES - New York City
I attain the traditional quality of still life by inviting the viewer to travel inside,
getting absorbed in the patterns and escaping the world.
The intentional absence of the figure helps to create peaceful and, often lonely
worlds, where the subjects integrate with the background fabrics and fill the canvas
with rich color and light.
Just as the still lifes became cityscapes, the fruits become the people
moving within them.
They relate to each other, not only in form and color, but also acquire their own
personalities by the manipulation of color, shape,
angle and relationship.
